A Hull-based caravan manufacturer has stepped in to offer sponsorship to North Ferriby United’s youth development scheme. Coachman Caravans will be co-sponsoring Ferriby’s 24 youth teams for the rest of the current season and will take over full sponsorship for the 2010/11 season.
The move comes after the Villager’s lost several key sponsors during the recent economic downturn. Despite always being run prudently and within a tight budget, this left the 76-year-old club with a serious gap in its finances.
The deal will see Coachman branding appear on youth shirts from next season and will ensure the club can continue to fulfil its commitments until the end of the current season.
Les Hare, Chairman of North Ferriby, explains:
"Ferriby has a hugely successful and well respected youth development scheme which currently provides sporting opportunity for over 300 local boys and girls aged 5 to 18. Although this set-up is self-financing through subscription, fundraising and sponsorship, the latter accounts for around 30% of total income. This meant that when we lost a sponsor halfway through this season we were forced to conduct cost cutting and downsizing across the club to ensure all of our teams can continue to compete.
"We’re extremely grateful to Coachman for helping us to stabilise our position. The club has had some incredible success over the last few years and for that to be jeopardised by financial worries off the pitch was unthinkable. This support means we can continue looking forward with optimism."
Jim Hibbs, Managing Director of Coachman Caravans, said:
"We’re delighted to be sponsoring the North Ferriby youth teams. It is clubs such as this which are the lifeblood of football and provide a breeding ground for young talent. Coachman have deep roots in the local area and we always try to put something back into the community."
Alan Roberts, Production Director at Coachman, and former Ferriby United superstar, said:
"I’m really pleased Coachman can help out North Ferriby. As a former player, I’ve obviously got a real soft spot for the Villagers and I’m hoping the sponsorship we’re providing will help secure the future of the club."
