Glossop Caravans mark 21 years supporting children’s charity Destination Florida

Derbyshire-based dealers Glossop Caravans are celebrating 21 years of supporting the North West children’s charity Destination Florida. The company has been supporting the charity since being introduced to its work at a function over 20 years ago and although their association began in a small and relatively informal way, their fundraising efforts have grown and last year Glossop raised around £7500 for Destination Florida.

The Manchester based charity specialises in taking groups of up to 75 children aged between 11 and 15 with life-threatening illnesses, on trips to Florida.

Glossop managing director Brian Laing explains: “The children involved are so needy that it touched our hearts when, over the years, we have been to presentations and watched videos and seen what such a wonderful cause this charity is.”

Glossop raises the majority of their funds for Destination Florida at their annual sales convention – dubbed the 200 Club. Salesmen and industry guests are taken to a different location each year, for a two-day event, during which the Glossop sales team is targeted to sell at least 200 caravans during the month of August. Whatever is donated by the delegates during the conference is then matched by Glossop.

So why does the company see charity fundraising as so important?

“We donate to such worthy causes just to see the smiles on the faces of these underprivileged children,” continued Mr Laing. “Hopefully we can bring some sunshine to the lives of those who would never otherwise be able to travel abroad. We consider it a great honour to be close to such a humble set of people.”
