A team of 12 Coachman employees successfully completed the gruelling Lyke Wake Walk this summer, raising in the region of £1,000 for a local charity, Dove House Hospice. The Lyke Wake Walk is approximately 42 miles in total and entails walking from one end of the North Yorkshire Moors to the other – which is a formidable feat for even the most experienced of walkers.
The walk took place on the 28th August and was organised by keen charity fundraiser and Coachman factory employee, Paul Baitson. Within half an hour of Paul suggesting Coachman put a team of walkers together, he was inundated with people who wanted to take part. Whilst few members of the team were experienced walkers, they all committed to training and enjoyed the challenge.
It took 17.5 hours for the team to complete the walk – with only one casualty, Ray Dees, who unfortunately couldn’t finish as he was suffering with painful blisters and had to visit A&E.
Paul Baitson said:
“Injuries aside, we all had a great time and enjoyed the walk. We managed to keep morale up throughout the night – taking plenty of tea breaks along the way! I’m really proud of how everyone did – some parts of the walk are quite precarious but everyone managed ok. I’m delighted with the amount of money we raised for charity and look forward to organising more fund raising events in the future. There’s even talk of doing the Three Peaks Challenge next year.”
Jim Hibbs, Managing Director of Coachman comments:
“It’s great to see members of the team rallying together for charity. They did a great job and raised money for a very worthy cause. We are always keen to support local charities here at Coachman and I wish the team the best of luck with their future fund raising endeavours.”
